Across the pond is where we will be this week and that is fitting since it is The Open week! But first we must check out the watch Bernd Wiesberger was wearing after he won the Aberdeen Standard Scottish Open! And while Dylan Frittelli didn’t disappoint on the course with his first PGA Tour win, he did let me down wearing what looked like a fitness tracker on his wrist. But back to a real “watch guy” Bernd, he was kissing that trophy wearing what looked like an Audemars Piguet Royal Oak Chronograph in stainless steel.

Audemars Piguet is a very high-end Swiss watchmaker that sponsors many golfers across the world. Audemars Piguet was started by Jules Louis Audemars and Edward Auguste Piguet in 1875 to create complex and precise timepieces. Today, Audemars Piguet keeps that tradition with their full line of classic and cutting edge designs. Bernd has shown quite a few AP watches on his Instagram account, including this piece in 2014.

Audemars Piguet created the first Royal Oak in 1972, their first luxury sport watch made from steel. Since then the Royal Oak has become an icon of luxury sport watches with its signature hexagon screws placed in an octagon bezel. Bernd’s Royal Oak Chronograph (ref: 26320ST.OO.1220ST.01) is made from Stainless Steel and has AP’s “Grand Tapisserie” dial in black. This dial has an exquisite square texture, matching black subdials, and the date at the 4:30 position. That dial is covered by extremely hard sapphire crystal. In 2012 this updated 41mm Royal Oak Chronograph replaced the previous 39mm version, keeping up with the demand for larger watches.

The Royal Oak Chronograph uses AP’s Caliber 2385 movement, the same used in the current version of this watch, the Royal Oak Selfwinding Chronograph. The 2385 is a 37 Jewel movement with 40 hours of power reserve and runs at a frequency of 21,600 beats per hour. Bernd’s Royal Oak Chronograph has a water resistance rating of 50 meters and originally came with a stainless steel, folding clasp, bracelet. It looks like he might have changed out the steel bracelet for a black rubber strap that is more common on the Royal Oak Offshore line.

Congrats to Bernd on winning the Aberdeen Standard Scottish Open and for being a watch guy. Great to see an old favorite on his wrist and good luck to him at The Open this week!
