Dustin Johnson underwent successful arthroscopic surgery Thursday to repair cartilage damage in his left knee.

Johnson’s management team announced the news in a statement on Thursday morning where they described the surgery as “routine” and similar to the surgery Johnson had on his right knee in December 2011.

Thursday’s surgery was performed by the same orthopedic surgeon, Dr George Caldwell, who treated Johnson eight years ago.

Johnson won twice in 2019 but has struggled for form since his runner-up finish at the PGA Championship in May, finishing no better than T20 in his subsequent eight starts on Tour.

After the Tour Championship at East Lake, Johnson said that he was looking forward to taking two months off, and the 35-year-old is expected to return to action this fall.
