WILLIAMSON COUNTY, TX — The Williamson County Sheriff’s Office late Tuesday revealed they now know the identity of a woman found dead 40 years ago in Georgetown — a murder victim who had been strangled dubbed “Orange Socks” given the footwear she wore at the time of her death.
In a tweet, Sheriff Robert Chody said the woman’s name would finally be revealed during a Wednesday afternoon press conference. According to a Wikipedia page created on the cold case spanning four decades, the woman was found October 1979 in the county seat of Georgetown, Texas. She was unclothed except for her orange socks, and is believed to have died mere hours before her body was discovered.
The Caucasian victim had been sexually assaulted, according to reports. Her body was found in a culvert along Interstate 35 after having been dragged and thrown over a guardrail, according to the Wikipedia entry. Infamous serial killer Henry Lee Lucas confessed to the crime and subsequently convicted for her murder before doubts were raised about his claim, according to the Wikipedia entry.
