Trail runners are generally friendly, fun and supportive. Still, the sport can sometimes be intimidating for women (or any beginners) to break into. To address that issue, several groups offer trail runs, races and other events specifically for women. “I never saw myself running a 50K or 50-miler, except in my dreams,” says Callista Salazar, 37, of Seattle, Washington, a member of the women’s trail-running club High Heel Running Group. “But watching a friend and fellow trail-running beginner finish [a 50K] showed me that such feats are possible for normal women with busy lives.” Whether you’re looking to enjoy the camaraderie of fellow female trail runners, to race an all-female field or to train with elite female runners and coaches on the world’s most beautiful trails, check out these options.
