Rocha and Cheserek Capture First Place Titles in 34th Annual Foot Locker

 
Cross Country Championships Northeast Regional

RACE HIGHLIGHTS: Catarina Rocha of Peabody, Mass., and Edward Cheserek of Newark, N.J., won the Foot Locker Cross Country Championships (FLCCC) Northeast Regional today.

title in 15:22, qualifying for the opportunity to defend his National Championship title in San Diego, Calif. on December
8. Jonathan Green of Berlin, Mass, (St. John’s Shrewsbury) placed second in 15:37, and Shawn Wilson of Marlton, N.J., placed third in 15:43.

 
Cheserek was in the lead as they entered the woods and never relinquished the coveted spot throughout the race, followed by

Green and Wilson. Green is a two-time FLCCC National Finalist.

 
Catarina Rocha, a senior from Peabody Veterans Memorial High School, claimed the title in 17:50, qualifying for the

National Finals for the third consecutive year. Megan Curham of Warren, N.J., finished second in 18:09, and Katie Lembo of

Penfield, N.Y., finished third in 18.11.
 
Lembo was in the lead at the one-mile mark with Rocha not far behind. At the two-mile mark, Rocha made her move to take the lead and claimed the Northeast Regional title.

NATIONAL CHAMPIONSHIPS: The top ten boys and the top ten girls in today’s seeded races qualified to compete against runners from the South, Midwest and West Regional meets in the Foot Locker Cross Country Championships National Finals, on Saturday, Dec.8 at Morley Field, Balboa Park in San Diego, Calif.
