Tonight in Bologna we found out who is the new winner of Coppa Italia. For the 11th time it the history the title went to Volley Modena. The final game against Energy Diatec Trentino was full of tension and sparks not only generated by some great volleyball but also between referees and the teams.
In the history of Coppa Italia both teams met only twice and both times Trento defeated their opponent from Modena. History of the team from Trento in the competition started in 2001. They won the title three times, once against Cuneo and twice against Macerata. On the contrary, Modena is a real veteran of the Coppa Italia. The team stands out in the ranking with the most victories in the history even though they have never won the final against Trento before. Angello Lorenzetti’s team won the Cup 10 times in 32 years history.

Before the final game even the coach experience wasn’t on Lorenzetti side. The leader of Modena has never won the Cup before while Radostin Stoychev has already got three of them, and two were won against Modena.
The final started with a great attitude on both sides. After playing point by point Modena took the lead 19:16 after phenomenal spikes of Ngapeth. He was a real leader of the team from the first minute supported by Petric. There wasn’t much of a history also in the second set and the game seemed to be more of one side show rather than an exciting final. Also the third set, at least at the beginning was a continuation of great volleyball played by Modena. Trento managed to come back to the game and powerful serve of Kaziyski closed the set for Trento. It didn’t bend Modena’s power and the fourth set started with a quick 5:0 and 16:7 for them. After Radostin Stoychev has been sent off the bench with two red cards, Trento didn’t manage to put themselves together.
The MVP title of the tournament went to French national Earvin N’Gapeth who impressed the public by his powerful spikes and serves. Also his attitude towards local supporters made the final more interesting.
Volley Modena secured their position in next years CEV Cup as well as added to the club history one more important title.
