Landowners and governments across Europe are failing to invest in simple fire prevention methods that could prevent tragedies such as the wildfires which tore across Greece earlier this week, forestry experts have warned.

As anguished families search for loved ones in the aftermath of the blaze in the Greek resort of Mati, the European Forest Institute [EFI] said soaring temperatures and climate change had dramatically increased the risk of wildfires.
“All countries are at risk in the light of climate change, not only southern Europe…and predictions say we will have more of these situations,” senior researcher Alexander Held told the Sunday Telegraph.
