Drew McIntyre’s 20-year journey to the main event of WrestleMania will finally come to fruition. The Scottish Psychopath emerged victorious on Sunday evening in one of the most star-studded Royal Rumble matches in history, laying waste to a host of WWE Superstars and returning legends en route to punching his ticket to the Grandest Stage of Them All.
McIntyre entered the annual Rumble match as the 16th entrant, immediately making an impact by eliminating WWE Champion Brock Lesnar. The “Beast Incarnate” made history just moments prior, single-handedly eliminating the first 13 men in the bout – a list that included names like John Morrison, Kofi Kingston, Rey Mysterio, Keith Lee and even the “Monster Among Men”, Braun Strowman.
This has been a long time coming for McIntyre, who began his wrestling training as a teenager in 2001. He was introduced to the WWE Smackdown audience in 2009 and had a giant spotlight thrust on him as Vince McMahon himself heralded the young star as a future world champion and the “Chosen One”.

While he did win the Intercontinental Championship and had two reigns with the WWE Tag Team Championships, his pushes over the years were anything but consistent. In 2012 McIntyre was put in a comedy stable called “3MB” alongside Heath Slater and Jinder Mahal, where he remained until leaving the company two years later.
McIntyre spent a little over three years away from WWE and in the process completely reinvented himself. In addition to improving his size and physique, he became a stand-out on the independent scene and drastically improved his promo skills as well. This led to him signing with Impact Wrestling in 2015, eventually winning the TNA World Heavyweight Championship.
In 2017, McIntyre returned to WWE as a member of the NXT brand and was clearly a different Superstar than the man who had as a member of 3MB. He went on to win the NXT Championship before being moved to the main roster shortly after WrestleMania 34.
