Following a difficult start to the season, OGC Nice have bounced back in recent weeks. Lucien Favre’s side are unbeaten in seven, and topped their Europa Conference League group. However, according to Nice-Matin, the Swiss manager’s managerial position remains insecure heading into the World Cup break.
Nice should have beaten Lyon on Friday night in their final fixture before the six-week break, however, a contentious, late penalty from Alexandre Lacazette earned Laurent Blanc’s side a draw. Post-match, Favre delivered a tetchy interview before becoming fed up with Amazon Prime Video’s line of questioning and cutting short his media duties.
Now, according to Nice-Matin, it is unclear whether Nice’s revival in recent weeks is enough to save Favre’s job. It was rumoured earlier in the season that his departure was imminent, but the Swiss manager, who is in his second spell as manager at the Allianz Riviera stayed.
The INEOS ownership at the club had reportedly envisaged sacking Favre, but fan support for the manager, and the club’s return to form leaves the club with a “dilemma.” A decision is expected to be made in the coming days.
