Karim Benzema was crowned the winner of the 2022 Ballon d’Or on Monday evening. His France teammates Kylian Mbappé and Olivier Giroud were quick to congratulate the Real Madrid striker on his maiden Ballon d’Or win.
Following the confirmation of Benzema’s win at the latest edition of the award, Giroud went on to post a story via his Instagram account. As reported by RMC Sport, his post reads, “Congratulations Karim Benzema.”
Despite the relationship between the pair reportedly being tumultuous since the “karting” and “F1” comments, the former Chelsea man showed his good faith by congratulating his fellow France forward.
Paris Saint-Germain striker Kylian Mbappé finished sixth in the Ballon d’Or rankings. And despite being disappointed by the result, Mbappé was seen appreciating Benzema’s milestone. He wrote in his Instagram story, “Congratulations brother. Deserved!”
France national team coach Didier Deschamps will announce the French squad for the upcoming World Cup on November 9. Benzema, Giroud, and Mbappé could make the cut and play together in the 2022 World Cup in Qatar.
