Nice have tonight announced the signing of Ross Barkley ahead of their home match against Monaco, with the English midfielder signing on a free transfer.
After a his spell at formative club Everton, the 28-year-old move to Chelsea in 2017 but saw his playing time decline dramatically from 2020 onwards, culminating in a loan spell at Aston Villa. His contract was terminated this summer, having only made six Premier League appearances last season, in which he scored two goals.
Barkley will wear the number eleven shirt, which was left vacant by the departure of striker Amine Gouiri for Rennes, in a deal that saw Gaëtan Laborde go the other way.
Les Aiglons have seen their late-summer business focus on signing players with Premier League experience in the wake of Iain Moody’s arrival, with the likes of Aaron Ramsey and Kasper Schmeichel having also joined. Left-back Joe Bryan was also signed on a loan deal from Fulham.
