RMC Sport report that Rennes have finally accepted a bid from Chelsea for 28-year-old Senegalese international goalkeeper Édouard Mendy, which is €24m + €6m in bonuses.

This is a record amount for a goalkeeper in Ligue 1, eclipsing the previous record of €13m, which was the amount for which Rennes sold Petr Cech to Chelsea for in 2004 and also Montpellier sold Benjamin Lecomte to Monaco for in 2019.

Mendy will undergo a medical with Chelsea in Berlin owing to British COVID-19 restrictions.

He will sign a 5-year contract with CFC should he pass that medical. Further details on when he will be able to train and play for Chelsea in relation to quarantine rules are not yet known.
