Championship outfit Newcastle United are making a deadline day play for Angers SCO striker Nicolas Pepé, according to our colleagues at L’Équipe.

Hull City have already made a €9m offer to try to sign the Ivorian international, but that bid has very little chance of succeeding, according to the report.

Newcastle United are prepared to meet Angers’ asking price of €10m, however, in the face of a deadline day bidding war, the SCO also appear likely to throw in another condition: that Pepé is loaned back to them until the end of the season.

Newcastle and Marseille, who are also very interested, are not enticed by such a deal, but Lyon, the other serious party at the time of writing, could accept such a loan back idea.

More undoubtedly to follow in the coming hours.
