The LFP have announced that they have decided to immediately close the North and South stands of Marseille’s Stade Velodrome in response to the violence that Marseille fans instigated during their clash last Sunday at home against Lyon.
Therefore, when OM play Angers on Sunday at home, the stadium will only be half-full. However, this is unlikely to be the last of the punishment from the LFP, who have decided to place a delay on finalising sanctions following the incident.
In addition, both of the clubs’ presidents have been summoned by the LFP for a hearing after their comments on the refereeing in the aftermath of last weekend’s game. The hearing will take place in mid-October for the presidents, while a judgement on further sanctions for Marseille due to general violence seen last Sunday could be made earlier.
