Marseille look to have beaten Aston Villa, Brighton and Southampton to the signing of Braga striker Vitinha (22), according to a report from Portuguese outlet O Jogo.
Vitinha, who, in the same vein as Benfica striker Gonçalo Ramos (21), is considered as one of Portugal’s rising talents, has made 17 appearances in the Liga Portugal this season. In this time he has scored seven goals and provided three assists whilst also scoring four goals in his five Europa league appearances. He is tied to Braga with a contract due to expire in 2027.
Marseille reportedly trumped competition from Premier League sides Aston Villa, Brighton and Southampton by offering a €32m bid to Braga for Vitinha, which is higher than his €30m release clause. The U21 Portuguese international is reportedly already on his way to Marseille where a long-term contract is waiting for him.
Marseille were in the market for a striker following the failure to sign Nigerian international striker Terem Moffi (23) from Lorient. Vitinha is set to be a statement signing for Marseille. If the deal goes through, OM would beat their transfer record.
