RC Strasbourg have completed the signing of goalkeeper Matz Sels from Newcastle United on a 4-year deal.
The Belgian stopper moves to the Stade de la Meinau for a reported fee of just under €4m, two years after transferring from Gent to Tyneside – in a spell that saw 26-year-old appear only 14 times for the Premier League club.
Sels spent last season on loan at Anderlecht where he enjoyed regular football once again, making 32 appearances for the 2017 Belgian champions.
The former Belgium U-21 goalkeeper expressed his pleasure to his new club’s media team in securing a move to Thierry Laurey’s side: “It is a big city here, as attractive as Brussels. They made an effort to recruit me. I will give my maximum here. It is a great challenge”.
