France manager Didier Deschamps explained on TF1 why Marseille attacking midfielder Dimitri Payet is not included in both the 23-man squad and the reserves list.
“He was a serious candidate. But it will take him at least 3 weeks to recover from this injury [that he suffered last night in the Europa League final]. There is a significant risk of a recurrence for a muscle tear. In comparison to my deadlines, unfortunately for Dimitri, it will not be possible.”
