Maybe it’s just us, but Sandy Claus just doesn’t have the same ring as Santa Claus. Ditto for Old St. Niki. But about 19 percent of Americans who responded to an online survey think Santa should be gender-neutral. Hmm, we’ll wrap our brains around that.

Santa should also get inked with tattoos, according to 20 percent of the people who answered a survey from GraphicSprings that asked how Santa should be modernized. Respondents, who numbered about 4,000, were in both the United States and the United Kingdom. They ranged in age from 18 to 65.

A thoroughly modern Santa would ditch the iconic red-and-white suit for skinny jeans, 20 percent of respondents said. Also, 25 percent of people said, he should wear sneakers or trainers instead of the classic black boots. In general, 18 percent of people said Santa just needs to be more hipster.

Tell Us: Should Santa be modernized? What, if anything, would you change? Tell us what you think in the comments.

While they’re updating Santa, he should not only have an iPhone, but also do his shopping on Amazon Prime, 23 percent of respondents said.

About that sleigh? Pftt. Santa needs to trade up to a flying car, according to 22 percent of respondents. Another 17 percent preferred a hoverboard to a flying car. Presumably, that would leave Rudolph — along with Dasher, Dancer, Prancer, Visen, Comet, Donner and Blitzen — without much to do besides chew hay.

And, hear this, Santa: A full 21 percent of respondents think you’re too fat and need to go on a diet. They’ll probably leave celery sticks on a plate near the Christmas tree.
