Despite John Cena and Roman Reigns teaming up on Raw recently, it appears that the company is not going to be pulling the trigger on a match between the two wrestlers at No Mercy. Instead, The Dirty Sheets podcast is claiming that the plan is to have Roman Reigns challenge The Miz for the Intercontinental Championship at No Mercy. Reigns will become a ‘grand slam’ champion in WWE if he defeats Miz for the belt, but it is unknown if that is the plan. Meanwhile, it was also noted that John Cena is currently scheduled to face Samoa Joe at the upcoming pay-per-view. The No Mercy show is going to be headlined by Brock Lesnar vs. Braun Strowman for the Universal Championship. It takes place on September 24th from the Staples Center in Los Angeles.
Ever since Jeff Hardy and his brother Matt returned to WWE earlier this year, one feature of Jeff’s character has consistently been absent. During his last few years in his previous WWE run, and in his later TNA run, Jeff Hardy would wear face paint to the ring. During a Q&A session at the Wizard World convention, a fan asked Jeff why he ditched the creative face paint. He seemed to imply that Vince McMahon told him not to wear face paint because Finn Balor wears body paint for his “Demon King” gimmick. He also said that Vince allows him to wear the face paint on live events, but not television shows. Hardy did also go on to say that he wants to save the face paint for bigger occasions as well.
Mike and Maria Kanellis both left GFW, bypassed NXT, and appeared directly on Smackdown all in one year. While that may seem impressive, the two have largely not done anything of note since joining the company. On Wrestling Observer Radio, Dave Meltzer also echoed these statements, saying that the company may have given up on them completely. He even claimed that the pair’s futures in the company were in doubt, along with some other members of the current Smackdown roster. The two came into the company with a ‘power of love’ gimmick that was met with criticism from the start. Mike Kanellis then went into a brief feud with Sami Zayn, but now the husband and wife are currently not involved in any sort of role.
