SATURDAY NEWS UPDATE
WWE
WWE has filed a trademark for “NXT TakeOver: Stand and Deliver.” Whether or not that will be the name of NXT’s two-night TakeOver event that’s planned for April remains to be seen.
WWE has also filed trademarks for “Jessamyn Duke” and “Skull King.”
WWE Network News reported that the upcoming WWE Chronicle episode on Damian Priest will premiere on the WWE Network on Sunday, March 14.
On last night’s SmackDown, Murphy was in action for the first time since December. Murphy, who was formerly Seth Rollins’ disciple, approached Rollins on the show and offered to help assist Rollins in taking care of his issues with Cesaro, but Rollins told Murphy to get out of his sight. Cesaro defeated Murphy by submission later in the night during a match where Rollins was on commentary.
Bobby Lashley told Complex about The Hurt Business potentially adding a female member: “We want dominance and a legacy. That’s what we want. Another thing that we talked about, we don’t even know if we want to go there, but I’ll throw this out: Is there a female that’s going to join the group? We thought about that. We have some definite names. And if we did go that route, I think we’re all in agreeance of who we would love to have a part of us. Can’t really say right now, but that’s something that’s [on the way]. So we’re trying to play with it, so we’re coming at all different angles.”
Complex also asked Lashley if he’s thought about who he’s going to face at WrestleMania: “The first one up [is] Drew. Drew’s been an amazing champion. He beat Brock, and ever since then, he’s been just mulling through people. They always say, to have a good good guy, you have to have a good bad guy, and I’m perfect with Drew. Because Drew’s not going to punk me, he’s not. I look forward to having an incredible match with Drew because we will steal the show. The WWE Championship, me and Drew, that’d be incredible. A lot of people also throw some other names in the hat. One person that we haven’t seen for a long time is Brock, we don’t know where he is. Sup with him? Everybody thought about that fantasy matchup with me and Brock for so many years. Well, I got the WWE Championship. He’s going to come back, [and] he’ll usually come back for a title. Anything can happen from now until then.”
During a Twitter exchange, Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson wrote to Lashley: “Appreciate the kind words brother. Very happy for you and proud. Grab that brass ring and go for it all. You know what to do, champ. Represent. #allmighty #peopleschamp”

AEW’s YouTube channel uploaded parts one, two, and three of their Countdown to Revolution special.
AEW also released a video previewing Hikaru Shida and Ryo Mizunami’s Women’s Championship match at Revolution.
Sports Illustrated has an interview with Shida. She spoke about putting together the Japanese side of AEW’s Women’s title eliminator tournament: “I’ve always felt that Japanese joshi are the best in the world. So introducing them to everyone is very meaningful for me. It’s kind of a way to brag about my home. I also want Japanese wrestlers to know they can reach the top of the world if they work hard. It’s not a fantasy. This is one of the biggest things I have done as champion, and I’m proud of it.”
Jon Moxley told DAZN about he and Kenny Omega being kindred spirits:
Yeah, definitely. I think you find that the top level of this business and probably a lot of other sports, and different realms of entertainment or any other endeavors, definitely in wrestling, which is a little bit of both. The guys at the very, very top have a certain screw loose. If you go back to the beginning of their careers, the way they did things differently, or the way they were obsessed, you find that they’re the people [where] even though on the surface, you might go those two dudes are totally different people, and they might be.
The commonality is there. The obsession with being at the top. The obsession with what we do. I think the commonality with me and Kenny, more specifically, is a lot of people just want to be at the top and in a more literal way of like, ‘Oh, yeah, I want to be the champion. I want to be in the main event. I want to be the most famous. I want to make money. I want to have the nicest, like, whatever.’ It’s important to them to be recognized as, ‘Oh, I am the top guy in a competitive sense.’
Whereas I think with me and Kenny, I’ve wrestled him enough times to kind of know that I think we share the commonality is we’re obsessed with the work of life. We’re mad scientists or artists. Although we might play slightly different music, we’re just as obsessed with our artwork.
That’s a cool thing about wrestling because you have different guys with different styles and stuff. It’s like music, or it’s like the classic Kenny Omega matches considered classical music. Like a form of storytelling. Very detailed ups and downs and these sweeping epic sagas. A lot of my stuff that I’m known for, and where I’m best at, and what I bring to the table better than anybody would be like thrash metal, like Anthrax, Slayer.
Three minutes in your face, rain and blood, aggressive, offensive, in and out in three minutes, knock your d– off. When you combine two things, like the first time Run DMC and Aerosmith got together, it’s rock and hip hop; two different things. Now we combine them.
Now I have walked this way, something entirely new. I think the matches you’ve seen with me and Kenny, especially the last time, were on pay-per-view together. You have the best of Kenny and the best of what I bring and create something entirely new that nobody’s ever seen before. That’s exciting. We definitely are kindred spirits in that we’re both mad scientists and we’re both obsessive artists, and we just really, really care about the work and feeling satisfied with what we created. That’s the most important part to us more so than any material accomplishments.
The New York Post asked Omega if he feels like he and Kota Ibushi are bound to cross paths again at some point: “I always felt like even when we parted ways and I kind of came over to America to attempt to try this thing out with AEW, and Ibushi really wanted to still accomplish what he has always dreamed of during in Japan, I sort of felt that things once again at some point would come full circle. I knew we were both winding down in the pursuit of our dreams in wrestling and we were breaking ourselves essentially. We were worried we wouldn’t get back around to that point because it would be too broken to do it. But he’s done what he’s always wanted to do and I’m doing something I never thought I’d be doing right now, but it’s put us both in a position where it’s perhaps possible. It’s well within the realm of possibility if the world was open to some degree to these type of things. It’s not even an issue of if the companies are open to it.”
Tony Khan spoke to Forbes about the status of Sunday AEW PPVs: “On the three-day holidays, I think it’s good. I actually would argue that for Double or Nothing or All Out, a large percentage of the country is going to have Monday off, and in England those are bank holidays so a large percentage of England, people aren’t really working very much. Most people have Labor Day and Memorial Day off here and abroad. Double or Nothing, I am strongly considering going to Sunday. All Out I really think it would be really smart to do Sunday because then I don’t compete with College Football and the NFL won’t be going head-to-head. Full Gear I will keep on a Saturday. Revolution and Full Gear, whenever possible, I will do on a Saturday.”
Khan told Busted Open Radio about the “Hall of Fame-worthy” AEW signee who will be revealed at Revolution: “I’ll say one thing, it’s one of my all-time favorite wrestlers, I tipped it on (AEW) Unrestricted, I tipped that it was a male. He’s coming, he’s going to do great things for us. He’s committed, he’s going to sign a contract Sunday at Revolution on pay-per-view, and we’re going to have all these great matches, and we will have this big news coming out of the show.”
